## Synopsis

Rent-a-Girlfriend is a Japanese animated romantic comedy series based on the manga and produced by TMS Entertainment, airing across multiple regional networks from 2020 onward. Twenty-year-old college student Kazuya Kinoshita (voiced by Shun Horie) is a hapless romantic failure who, spiteful after a short-lived relationship, hires a rental girlfriend named Chizuru Mizuhara (voiced by Sora Amamiya) to date him. The engine of the show is the gap between the arrangement and the feelings it stirs: every episode puts the pair through awkward outings, misunderstandings, and rival suitors like Mami Nanami (Aoi Yuuki) and Ruka Sarashina (Nao Toyama), while Kazuya's pride keeps tripping him up. The story unfolds through slice of life scenes of campus life and everyday dating anxiety, with comedic tension building around every secret. Its tone is breezy and sincere, leaning on cringe comedy and warm romantic beats. Fans of Kaguya-sama: Love Is War and Nisekoi will find resonance in its rivalry-driven romance and self-conscious humor. Viewers who enjoy love comedies built on lies and escalating crushes will find the series an easy and engaging watch, set in a modern Japanese college town.
