## Synopsis

The Neighbor (El vecino, 2019-2021) is a Spanish comedy series created by Raúl Navarro and Miguel Esteban and produced by Zeta Studios for Netflix. Javier (Quim Gutiérrez) is a barely solvent man in contemporary Spain whose de-motivational T-shirt business is failing and whose relationship with Lola (Clara Lago) is wobbling. His plans for the month collapse when a dying alien passes its powers to him, leaving him with abilities he never asked for. Each episode mixes small domestic and workplace frustrations with the absurd logistics of a sudden superhero life, and the engine of the show is Javier trying to keep his money, job and romance intact while his new powers make things worse. Supporting characters such as José Ramón (Adrián Pino) and Julia (Catalina Sopelana) fill out his world of friends and everyday hustle. The series runs across two seasons and eighteen half-hour episodes, moving in a continuing storyline with a deadpan, sardonic edge. Its tone is irreverent and wry, with a bleak undercurrent beneath the jokes. Fans of Misfits and Kick-Ass will find resonance in its ordinary-person take on superpowers.
