## Synopsis

Miss Scarlet (2020-present) is a British period crime drama created by Rachael New and aired on U&Alibi. Kate Phillips plays Eliza Scarlet, a resourceful woman who inherits a debt-ridden detective agency when her father dies and refuses to let it fold. To work in a male dominated profession she needs a partner, and she finds one in the Duke, a detective whose methods and manners clash with hers. Stuart Martin plays William Wellington and Cathy Belton plays Ivy Woods, and their wider circle of allies and rivals shapes the investigations. Each episode is built around a self-contained case that pulls the pair into the grimy streets, boarding houses and gaslit back alleys of 1880s London. The engine of the show is the uneasy alliance between two strong-willed leads who must earn trust while every new client demands discretion and every suspect hides something. Across six seasons the series has built a steady following for its brisk pacing and warm banter. Its tone balances wit and cosiness with the sharper edges of Victorian inequality. Fans of Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries, Ripper Street and Sherlock Holmes will find resonance in its female-led period detection, sparkling chemistry and costume-drama polish.
