## Synopsis

The Goes Wrong Show (2019-2021) is a British sitcom created by Jonathan Sayer, Henry Shields and Henry Lewis for BBC One. Its troupe of amateur actors, led by the earnest Chris Bean (Henry Shields) and Robert Grove (Henry Lewis), along with Dennis Tyde (Jonathan Sayer), Max Bennett (Dave Hearn) and Sandra Wilkinson (Charlie Russell), take on prestige stage productions and see each one come apart. The engine of the show is simple: the company wants to deliver a polished performance, and every scene is undone by collapsing sets, malfunctioning props and tortured thespians pushing through. Each episode is a short self-contained comedy of escalating physical disasters, with the cast playing up their vanity and bravado. The show is an exercise in slapstick and mishap, with a warm, breezy, affectionate tone that celebrates amateur enthusiasm. Set in contemporary Britain among community theatre productions, it is a family-friendly comedy with a bright, farcical register. Fans of Noises Off, The Office and Extras will find resonance in its mix of cringe-inducing self-regard and gleeful stagecraft disasters across two seasons and eleven episodes.
