## Synopsis

Atlantic Crossing (2020) is a Norwegian-American historical drama miniseries created by Alexander Eik and broadcast on NRK1. Sofia Helin plays Crown Princess Märtha, who flees the Nazi invasion of Norway and must cross the Atlantic to seek refuge in the United States, parted from her husband. Tobias Santelmann plays Crown Prince Olav, whose separate path keeps the family divided as the war grows. In America, Märtha finds herself drawn into a close relationship with President Franklin D. Roosevelt, played by Kyle MacLachlan, while Harriet Sansom Harris appears as Eleanor Roosevelt. The engine of the story is the princess's effort to use her position, her charm and her private access to the most powerful man in the Allied world to keep her occupied country visible and supported. Each episode moves through rooms of diplomacy, correspondence, state dinners and quiet negotiations, where personal loyalty and national duty pull against each other. The eight-episode limited series is a single continuous narrative set during World War II in wartime Washington and the exiled Norwegian court. Its tone is measured and contemplative, with warmth, longing and a sober sense of history. Viewers who enjoy The Crown, Chernobyl and Band of Brothers will find resonance in its real figures and its wartime stakes.
