## Synopsis

Van der Valk (2020-present) is a Dutch national-television crime drama series set in Amsterdam, created by Chris Murray. Detective Piet van der Valk (Marc Warren) leads a team of investigators through a run of high-profile murder cases that pull them into the worlds of art, politics, addiction, mysticism and the fashion industry. Alongside him, colleague Lucienne Hassell (Maimie McCoy) and fellow detective Hendrik Davie (Darrell D'Silva) help piece together each case, while Emma Fielding plays Julia Dahlman in the wider ensemble. The engine of the show is methodical police work: interviews, forensic leads and the slow untangling of powerful suspects who guard their secrets. Each season is built from a few feature-length episodes of roughly ninety minutes, giving the investigations room to breathe. Across four seasons the story stays a continuing thread of detective work rather than a case-of-the-week format. Set in the canal-lined city of present-day Amsterdam, the series balances a grounded, measured atmosphere with moments of unease and moral ambiguity. Fans of Wallander, Spiral and Morse will find resonance in its patient, character-driven investigations and its European crime sensibility.
