## Synopsis

Midnight Mass (2021) is an American limited series created by Mike Flanagan for Netflix. Set on the isolated, economically dying Crockett Island, the seven-episode miniseries follows the arrival of a charismatic young priest, Father Paul Hill (Hamish Linklater), whose glorious miracles awaken renewed religious fervor among a community desperate to believe. Sheriff Hassan (Rahul Kohli) and recovering alcoholic Riley Flynn (Zach Gilford), who returned home after a prison stint, are drawn into the mysteries that gather around the church, while Bev Keane (Samantha Sloyan) and Erin Greene (Kate Siegel) embody the town's divided loyalties. The engine is the tension between hope and suspicion: the townspeople want to believe, and the strange events make it harder to tell redemption from something far more sinister. Each episode builds a thick, suffocating dread through ritual, long philosophical dialogue and a haunting liturgical score rather than cheap scares. Visually restrained and deeply atmospheric, the series examines blind faith, grief and the human need for meaning. Fans of The Leftovers, Twin Peaks and Let the Right One In will find resonance in its slow burn, its small town unease and its questioning of belief.
