## Synopsis

Son of the Beach (2000-2002) is an American spoof sitcom created by Timothy Stack and James R. Stein for FX. Timothy Stack plays Notch Johnson, a self-proclaimed greatest lifeguard who is hardly competent, leading the lifeguard unit SPF-30 on a Malibu stretch of sand. Jaime Bergman plays B.J. Cummings, a fellow lifeguard whose calm competence contrasts with the team's constant bungling, while Lisa Banes plays Mayor Anita Massengil, a scheming civic official who keeps tangling the unit in local politics. Each thirty-minute episode runs as a self-contained case of the week, with rescues that go wrong, romantic rivalries and vanity-driven plans as the engine. The show runs three seasons and forty-two episodes, a broad and irreverent parody played straight-faced for maximum absurdity. Its tone is deadpan and silly, with mock heroics, sight gags and crude physical humor throughout. Fans of Baywatch, Police Squad! and Mad TV will find the same spirit of gleeful lampooning of glossy television conventions here.
