## Synopsis

Flop Show (1989-1990) is an Indian television sitcom created by Jaspal Bhatti for DD National. Bhatti writes, directs and plays a fictionalized version of himself, a satirical humourist whose everyday life is steered by bureaucratic frustration and social pressure in late-1980s India. His real-life wife Savita Bhatti produces the series and plays Preeti, his wife on screen, anchoring the domestic scenes with warmth and sharp timing. Supporting performers Kuldeep Sharma, Vivek Shauq and Arjuna Bhalla populate the episodes with neighbours, officials and everyday figures who embody the obstacles faced by ordinary citizens. The engine of each episode is the mismatch between a common man's modest hopes and the indifferent machinery of offices, paperwork and social expectation. Across a single season of ten short half-hour episodes, the show uses deadpan wit and pointed observation to turn small humiliations into biting commentary. Its tone is wry, grounded and politically aware, with the feel of a home-grown broadcast classic. Fans of Yes Minister and The Office will find resonance in its bureaucratic absurdity and its warm, satirical eye on ordinary life.
