## Synopsis

Koikimo is a Japanese animated romantic comedy adapted from a manga, with a single twelve episode season broadcast in 2021. Its engine is cringe comedy: Amakusa Ryo, an easygoing salaryman and self-styled womanizer, meets high school girl Arima Ichika after she rescues him at a rainy train station. He offers to repay her with a kiss or a date, she calls him creepy, and he falls hard for her. Each episode builds from his overly earnest, escalating attempts to express his feelings while Ichika insults and rejects him, and he interprets every rebuff as a sign of affection. Supporting characters add friction and comic complications to the pursuit. Episodes are short, self-contained batches of awkward encounters that stay light and breezy. The tone is playful and teasing, with the awkwardness doing most of the work, and the uncomfortable age gap divides viewers. Fans of Kaguya-sama: Love Is War and Hayate the Combat Butler will recognize its romcom awkwardness and lopsided romantic dynamics.
