## Synopsis

Guiding Light (1952-2009) is an American daytime soap opera created by Irna Phillips for CBS. Broadcast for over half a century and preceded by a fifteen year run on radio, it holds a Guinness record as the longest running television drama in history. The series follows interlocking families through marriages, custody battles, secret pasts and shifting romantic alliances, with characters such as Rafe Rivera (E.J. Bonilla) at the center of its sprawling web of relationships. Its engine is the soap's constant churn: a romance threatened by a returning rival, a family secret that surfaces at the worst moment, and a long chain of alliances and betrayals that unfold in daily installments. Each hour long episode moves a web of storylines forward at a deliberate pace, so the story reads as one continuing serialized saga rather than self-contained chapters. Set in a contemporary American milieu, the show carries a melodramatic, sincere and emotionally heightened tone, with cathartic reunions and gut punches alike. Fans of The Young and the Restless, General Hospital and Days of Our Lives will find the same comfort in familiar faces and long running sagas.
