## Synopsis

Hell Girl (2005-2017) is a Japanese animated supernatural mystery series produced by Studio Deen and Aniplex and broadcast on TOKYO MX, a dark fantasy anime that unfolds across four seasons and ninety episodes. The engine is a simple, sinister service: people who have been wronged visit a website and request that their tormentors be sent to hell by Ai Enma, a mysterious girl in a red-lit netherworld, and her assistants Ichimokuren (Masaya Matsukaze), Wanyudo (Takayuki Sugo) and Hone Onna (Takako Honda). Each episode follows a new case of bullying, betrayal or quiet cruelty, moving between the requesters and the people they want punished, and the cost of the bargain begins to weigh on everyone involved. Ai herself, voiced by Mamiko Noto, carries the moral weight of the series, and the tone stays melancholic, eerie and sorrowful rather than gleeful. Structurally the show is a serialized anthology of linked tales, with recurring characters threading through the self-contained stories. Its folkloric imagery and somber atmosphere will appeal to viewers who enjoy Mononoke and the moral unease of Death Note, and fans of Black Mirror will recognize its interest in how technology and desire turn people into judges.
