## Synopsis

Conversations with Friends (2022) is a British-Irish co-produced miniseries created for BBC Three and Hulu, adapted from the novel by Sally Rooney. Alison Oliver plays Frances, a sharp, guarded college student in Dublin who writes poetry and performs spoken word, and Sasha Lane plays her best friend and former partner Bobbi. Their lives shift when they befriend an older married couple, the actor Nick (Joe Alwyn) and his wife Melissa (Jemima Kirke), and the friendship grows intimate in ways that test loyalty and self-image. The engine of the twelve half-hour episodes is conversation: arguments, confessions and late-night talks in cramped flats, bars and rented houses that reveal how much each character hides. The story unfolds as a single continuing arc across one season, with a restrained, melancholic register and a steady undercurrent of desire. Its literary, dialogue-driven intimacy will appeal to fans of Normal People and Girls, and of adult relationship dramas like The Affair. The mood is cool, observant and emotionally raw, and it rewards close attention to what goes unsaid.
