## Synopsis

Unabomber: In His Own Words (2020) is a Netflix documentary miniseries created by Mick Grogan. Across four roughly 44-minute episodes, it builds its portrait around a rare on-camera interview with Ted Kaczynski himself, who recounts his path from a gifted young mathematician to the man the FBI hunted for nearly two decades as the Unabomber. The engine of the series is the slow reconstruction of how a brilliant mind hardened into a bomber, and the testimony that surrounds his account. Former Harvard classmate Roy Wright, FBI supervisory special agent Joel Moss of the UNABOMB Task Force, San Francisco Chronicle reporter Kevin Fagan, and his younger brother David Kaczynski speak alongside the archival record, while a bombing survivor and a prosecution forensic psychiatrist weigh in on what the crimes meant. Each episode moves through a different stage of the investigation and the family's dilemma, creating a single cohesive account in a limited run. Set in late twentieth century United States, the series has a sober, unsettling and contemplative tone, with dread carried by the evidence rather than by spectacle. Fans of Making a Murderer, The Jinx and Mindhunter will find resonance in its patient true crime investigation and its focus on the psychology of a notorious offender.
