## Synopsis

Patriot (2020-2025) is a Russian comedy-drama series produced for TNT and Premier, running four seasons and seventy episodes of roughly twenty-five minutes each. Anton Zhizhin plays Sanya Kuchin, a young man back in his small provincial town after military service, trying to settle into peaceful civilian life. He takes a job as a security guard at a convenience store called Dream, reconnects with a former classmate, and collides daily with the local bourgeoisie, slovenliness, heavy drinking and general indifference of his neighbours. Aleksey Bazanov plays his friend Valera, and Anastasia Talyzina plays Lenka, whose family and romantic history keeps pulling Sanya in. The engine of the show is the gap between the orderly discipline he learned in the army and the messy improvisation of everyday provincial life, which turns each episode into a run of small humiliations, petty schemes and awkward reconciliations. Set in contemporary small-town Russia, the series moves at a brisk, conversational pace, with a warm, wry, occasionally melancholy tone. Fans of Shameless and Roseanne, with their working class families and blunt humour, will find resonance here, as will viewers drawn to post soviet provincial comedy.
