## Synopsis

Girls5eva (2021-2024) is a American musical sitcom created by Meredith Scardino for Netflix and Peacock. When a one-hit-wonder girl group from the 1990s gets sampled by a young rapper, its members reunite to give their pop star dreams one more shot. Sara Bareilles plays Dawn, Busy Philipps plays Summer, Paula Pell plays Gloria, and Renée Elise Goldsberry plays Wickie, four grown women juggling spouses, kids, jobs, debt, aging parents and sore shoulders while trying to rebuild a career that never quite took off. The engine of the show is the gap between their ambition and their ordinary lives: rehearsals squeezed between school runs, record label meetings that go nowhere, and a music industry that keeps treating them as a nostalgia act. Each episode pairs original pop songs performed with earnest conviction against deadpan, self-aware comedy about middle age. The show runs three seasons in a contemporary New York setting and is tonally warm, sardonic and wistful, with a sisterhood at its core. Fans of 30 Rock, Schitt's Creek and Broad City will find resonance in its sharp comic writing and ensemble chemistry. Its ending is left unresolved after cancellation.
