## Synopsis

Taiga Novel (2000) is a Russian miniseries created by Aleksandr Mitta for Channel One. Set at a small garrison on the Chinese border in the Far East during the 1970s, the story follows Marina Goloshchekina, a kind and principled doctor, and her two closest friends Galya Zhgut and the extravagant Albina Voron, officers' wives who lean on one another in a world where nearly every man carries a gun. Marina's five-year marriage to the strong-willed, unpredictable captain Nikita Goloshchekin (Aleksey Guskov) is shaken when she unexpectedly falls for the young lieutenant Ivan Stolbov (Marat Basharov). Across eight episodes of about fifty minutes each, the engine is the push and pull between duty, loyalty and a secret love that threatens everything the women have built. The remote outpost, with its barracks, cramped family quarters and long isolated winters, gives the romance a claustrophobic and intimate weight. Its tone is melancholic and tender, blending soap-opera passion with a sober look at military life. Fans of Army Wives and the emotional intimacy of Chernobyl will find resonance in this quiet, character-driven Russian drama about love under pressure.
