## Synopsis

Great Mazinger (1974-1975) is a Japanese animated super robot series created by Go Nagai and broadcast on Fuji TV, produced by Toei Animation. After Koji Kabuto and Sayaka Yumi leave for the United States, the rash orphan Tetsuya Tsurugi (voiced by Keiichi Noda) takes over piloting the Great Mazinger, a towering robot built to defend humanity. Under the direction of Dr. Kenzo Kabuto (voiced by Hidekatsu Shibata), and helped by his adoptive sister Jun Honou (voiced by Yumi Nakatani), Tetsuya faces a rotating roster of grotesque monsters and commanders sent by the Miccene Empire, led by the menacing Archduke Gorgon (voiced by Osamu Kato). The engine of the series is simple and propulsive: each episode delivers a fresh threat, a showdown of flashy weapons and giant-scale combat, and a hot-headed hero whose impulsiveness is tested against the calmer wisdom of his guardians. The structure is episodic in its rhythm, with a single story thread advancing across its 56 episodes in one season. Its tone is brash, earnest and adrenaline-driven, with a retro 1970s charm. Fans of Mazinger Z, Getter Robo and Mobile Suit Gundam will find resonance in its mecha spectacle and heroic youth.
