## Synopsis

Candy Candy (1976-1979) is a Japanese animated shoujo drama series created by Kyoko Mizuki and broadcast on TV Asahi, produced by Toei Animation. Its heroine is Candy, a cheerful orphan raised at Pony's Home, who keeps her warm heart and optimism through hardship. After she is adopted into the Loka family, she must contend with the scheming Leagan siblings, Leo and Eliza, who treat her with open hostility. Her romantic thread centers on Antony, a boy who looks identical to the handsome boy on the hill she knew as a child, and the question of who he really is drives much of the story. Each episode plays out through friendships, social rivalries, and small moments of kindness that build toward larger emotional stakes. Classic 1970s anime melodrama in the tradition of Heidi, Girl of the Alps, the series offers sentimental, hopeful, and occasionally wistful storytelling. Fans of Anne of Green Gables and Rose of Versailles will find resonance in its orphan heroine, aristocratic setting, and romance. Its single season of 115 episodes gives it a leisurely, comforting rhythm suited to nostalgic viewers.
