## Synopsis

The Drew Carey Show (1995-2004) is an American network sitcom created by Bruce Helford and Drew Carey for ABC. Drew Carey stars as Drew, an assistant director of personnel stuck for a decade in a Cleveland department store, and Ryan Stiles plays his scheming coworker Lewis Kiniski while Diedrich Bader plays the lazy Oswald Lee Harvey. Kathy Kinney plays Mimi Bobeck, Drew's constant antagonist at work, and Christa Miller plays Kate O'Brien, the love interest he keeps failing to win. The engine of the show is small ambition thwarted by everyday pettiness: Drew wants a better life and a date, yet he drinks beer, bickers with Mimi, and runs a micro-brewery in his garage with his buddies to scrape together extra cash. Each episode is a self-contained case of workplace humiliation and romantic misfortune. Across nine seasons and 233 episodes, the show keeps a steady, breezy tone of broad slapstick and self-deprecating banter. Set in a working class Midwestern city, it is a family-friendly multi-camera comedy with the warm, bruised spirit of The Office (US) and Roseanne, and it suits viewers who enjoy lovable losers and office rivalries.
