## Synopsis

Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters (2000-2004) is a Japanese animated shonen series produced by TV Tokyo and Gallop, adapted from the manga by Kazuki Takahashi. Shy, bullied high school student Yugi Muto (voiced by Shunsuke Kazama) solves an ancient Egyptian Millennium Puzzle and awakens Yami Yugi, the confident spirit of the King of Games, who takes over his body whenever injustice strikes. Yami Yugi forces wrongdoers into Shadow Games, duels where losing carries real supernatural consequences. Friends Joey Wheeler (Hiroki Takahashi), Tea Gardner (Maki Saito) and Tristan Taylor (Takayuki Kondo) stand alongside him, while rival Seto Kaiba (Kenjiro Tsuda) pursues his own competitive ambitions. Across 224 episodes in a single continuing run, each episode builds around a new duel, with monster cards summoned as creatures and strategy turning on card effects. The tone mixes playful schoolyard humor with tense, high-stakes contests and an earnest belief in friendship. Its card-battle structure and mythic Egyptian atmosphere make it a natural pick for fans of Digimon Adventure, Beyblade and Pokemon, and for viewers who enjoy a shonen anime built around competition and loyalty.
