## Synopsis

The Forest of Love: Deep Cut (2020) is a Japanese crime drama miniseries created by Sion Sono for Netflix. Charismatic conman Joe Murata (Kippei Shiina) and an aspiring film crew led by Shin (Shinnosuke Mitsushima) delve into the lives of two emotionally scarred women, Mitsuko Ozawa (Eri Kamataki) and Ami Ozawa (Yuzuka Nakaya). Their engine is a documentary-style pursuit that keeps shifting as the crew's footage exposes deceptions and the line between observer and participant blurs. The seven-episode limited series unfolds in contemporary Japan with a bleak, dread-filled atmosphere, where every relationship feels unstable and every reveal tightens the tension. Its tones are unsettling and nihilistic, and its themes turn on manipulation, trauma and the hunger for control. Sono's confrontational, unflinching style makes it a harrowing watch for fans of Mindhunter, Hannibal and the Japanese crime cinema tradition of Confessions. Expect graphic and disturbing material throughout, delivered at a measured pace across a single season.
