## Synopsis

Little Voice (2020) is a United States dramedy with musical numbers, created by Sara Bareilles and Jessie Nelson for Apple TV. Brittany O'Grady plays Bess King, a uniquely gifted performer who keeps running into rejection on the way to her dreams, while her dating troubles and family tensions pile up around her. Kevin Valdez, Shalini Bathina and Sean Teale fill out the circle of friends, romantic partners and relatives who push her toward or away from the life she wants. Each of the nine half-hour episodes follows her attempts to land work, make sense of her love life and keep her own creative identity intact against the pull of other people's expectations. The show plays its emotional beats with warmth and a bright, hopeful register, and its songs carry the feelings characters struggle to say aloud. Its tone blends wit, heartache and earnest optimism, and it lands in the same territory as Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and Smash for viewers who enjoy ambitious young women chasing a stage. The single season was canceled, so the story stops with its central question still open.
