Viewers find the 2021 Shaman King anime faster and more compressed than the original, with good animation but rushed storytelling and unnecessary changes.

## Synopsis

Shaman King (2021-2022) is a Japanese television anime series based on the manga, broadcast across several networks including TV Tokyo, and a single season of 52 episodes. Medium Yoh Asakura (voiced by Yoko Hikasa) enters a battle tournament held only once every five hundred years, where rival shamans compete for the right to become the all-powerful Shaman King. Yoh is joined by his spirit companion Amidamaru (Katsuyuki Konishi) and his rival Hao (Minami Takayama) looms as a dangerous presence, while Anna Kyoyama (Megumi Hayashibara) and Manta Oyamada (Inuko Inuyama) round out the cast. Each episode is built around spirit-powered duels, rapid tournament matches and the mounting stakes of a contest that spans the whole season, all presented with brisk shonen energy and bright action. The tone mixes playful humor with supernatural intensity and a sense of destiny, and the look draws on the bold, kinetic style of a classic battle anime. Its story and battles are set in a contemporary Japan where spirits and shamanic powers operate beneath the surface of everyday life. Fans of Yu Yu Hakusho, Naruto and Jujutsu Kaisen will find resonance in its blend of supernatural combat, rivalry and youthful adventure.
