## Synopsis

He-Man and the Masters of the Universe (1983-1984) is an American syndicated animated sword and sorcery series created by Roger Sweet, produced by Filmation Associates and tied to Mattel's toy line. Prince Adam of the alien planet Eternia transforms into the powerful warrior He-Man whenever he raises his magic sword, and he battles the scheming Skeletor and his minions to protect the secrets of Castle Grayskull. Voiced by John Erwin as He-Man and Alan Oppenheimer as Skeletor, with Linda Gary as the warrior Teela and Lou Scheimer as the sidekick Orko, the show runs over two seasons of 130 episodes in a self-contained episodic format where each story stages a new scheme, monster or battle. The tone is campy, brightly colored and earnest, with theatrical villainy and loyal companions such as the tiger Battle Cat anchoring the adventure. Its emphasis on heroism and friendship and its over-the-top fantasy landscapes make it a nostalgic Saturday morning pick. Fans of ThunderCats and the Transformers cartoons of the same era will find the same mix of toy-driven action, cosmic menace and simple moral clarity.
