## Synopsis

I'm a Virgo (2023) is a US absurdist coming-of-age satire series created by Boots Riley for Prime Video. Jharrel Jerome plays Kuti, nicknamed Cootie, a 13-foot-tall young Black man who has been hidden away his whole life and now steps into the streets of Oakland, California for the first time. The engine of the show is his clumsy, earnest attempt to make friends, find love and navigate awkward encounters while his sheltered innocence collides with a world full of contradictions. Olivia Washington plays Flora, and Brett Gray plays Felix among the circle of people who draw him in, while his idol, a real-life superhero called The Hero, anchors a thread about fame and myth. Each of the seven half-hour episodes is a loosely connected joyride with its own detours into cult politics and social satire, so the show plays more like an extended picaresque than a tightly plotted drama. Its tone mixes surreal, deadpan humor with sincere warmth and sharp commentary on race and power. Fans of Atlanta, Dear White People and Watchmen will find resonance in its blend of surreal premise and pointed social critique. A single season was released before the show was canceled.
