## Synopsis

Excel Saga (1999-2000) is a Japanese animated comedy created by Koshi Rikudo and produced by J.C.STAFF and Victor Entertainment for TV Tokyo, a single-season anime parody of 26 episodes. Hyperactive Excel, voiced by Kotono Mitsuishi, serves her lord Il Palazzo (Takehito Koyasu), a would-be conqueror of the planet, but her eagerness to please him keeps spiraling into chaos. Her long-suffering partner Hyatt (Omi Minami) is perpetually near death and gets dragged along as they wander the world, meeting a parade of strange characters. Each episode is a loose sequence of gags rather than one continuing plot, and the comedy works through rapid-fire absurdity, deadpan asides and sly mockery of anime conventions, secret organizations and henshin hero tropes. The tone is breezy, irreverent and deliberately disorienting, with a visual style that shifts freely between parody and gag. Fans of Gintama and Space Dandy, who enjoy anime that spoofs its own medium, will find the same manic, self-aware energy here.
