## Synopsis

Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040 (1998-2000) is a Japanese cyberpunk animated series created by Chiaki J. Konaka for SBS and TV Tokyo. Set in a near-future MegaTokyo in 2040, the story follows four young women who gear up in cybernetic suits and ride motorcycles against an evil corporation's bionic pawns. The protagonist Priss Asagiri is voiced by Yuu Asakawa, and Sylia Stingray is voiced by Satsuki Yukino, with Rio Natsuki as Linna Yamazaki and Hiroko Konishi as Nene Romanova rounding out the team. Their engine is simple and urgent: a workforce of robots keeps going on destructive killing sprees, and each episode pushes the heroines toward a dangerous meltdown as they hunt the machines threatening to strangle humanity. The single season of twenty-six episodes is a continuing action saga rather than a case-of-the-week format. Its tone is loud, gritty and heavy metal, with a glossy veneer over a dark, violent city. Fans of Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Akira and Megazone 23 will find resonance in its cyberpunk megacity and armored heroines.
