## Synopsis

Hoops (2020) is an American adult animated sports comedy series created by Ben Hoffman for Netflix. Coach Ben Hopkins (Jake Johnson) is a foul-mouthed high school basketball coach who believes his ticket to the professional leagues depends on turning a terrible team around. He is pulled in several directions by his own ambitions, by his frustrated family, and by a roster of players and staff who are not much help. Voiced by a cast that includes Rob Riggle as Barry Hopkins, Natasha Leggero as Shannon, and Ron Funches as Ron, the show runs for a single ten-episode season of roughly thirty-minute episodes. Each episode is built around practices, games, and small-town school politics, with the comedy coming from coarse dialogue and the gap between the coach's grand plans and his results. The tone is crude, irreverent, and loose, with a sardonic streak underneath the bluster. Fans of Ted Lasso, which shares its profane underdog sports framing, and Bob's Burgers, which shares its adult animated workplace humor, will find something to enjoy here. The series was canceled after its first season, so the story stops without resolving the team's season.
