## Synopsis

MIU404 (2020) is a Japanese crime drama series created by Akiko Nogi for TBS. Detective Kazumi Shima (Gen Hoshino) is a brilliant but distrustful investigator who is assigned to the Mobile Investigative Unit of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department, a team that must solve its cases within twenty four hours. He is paired against his will with Ai Ibuki (Go Ayano), a police officer from a local substation who failed the unit's entrance exam and lacks detective experience but excels physically. Their partnership is the engine of the series, as the two must cover street crime, drug trafficking and organized criminal networks while learning to trust one another. The eleven-episode season is built around case-of-the-week investigations that carry a continuing thread, giving it the shape of a compact serialized procedural. Set in present-day Tokyo, the show moves through busy streets, stations and the city's hidden corners with a mix of tension and warm humor. Its tone blends gritty crime with the odd couple comedy of its leads, and its character study of two outsiders appeals to fans of Sherlock and Bosch. The result is a sharp, character-driven crime drama with a fast, layered rhythm.
