## Synopsis

Paranormal (2020) is an Egyptian scripted supernatural mystery series created by Amr Salama for Netflix. Set in 1960s Egypt, the six-episode season follows Dr. Refaat Ismail (Ahmed Amin), a professor of hematology who relies on reason and laboratory evidence, as he confronts a run of unexplained events that his science cannot account for. He is joined by his Scottish former flame Maggie Mckillop (Razane Jammal), whose presence adds both emotional tension and a second perspective on the uncanny. Supporting characters including Huwaida Abdel Moniem (Aya Samaha), Shiraz (Reem Abdel Qader), and Raeefa Ismail (Samaa Ibrahem) help anchor the story within the family and social fabric of the period. Each episode is built around a fresh mystery with murder, folklore, and the weight of ancient curses, gradually pulling the investigators toward a larger pattern. The tone is eerie and atmospheric, mixing period melancholy with a slow-building dread and a skeptical intelligence that keeps the supernatural grounded. Fans of Penny Dreadful and Twin Peaks, with their mix of period texture and uncanny investigation, will find resonance here. The result is a compact, self-contained limited series with a distinctly Egyptian register of myth and mystery.
