## Synopsis

Trickster (2020) is a Canadian indigenous supernatural drama created by Michelle Latimer for CBC Television. Joel Oulette plays Jared, an Indigenous teenager who struggles to hold together his dysfunctional family while the everyday world around him slowly gives way to myth, magic, and monsters. Nathan Alexis, Crystle Lightning, Kalani Queypo, Anna Lambe, and Craig Lauzon fill out the principal cast as the family and community members whose lives are tangled up in his. The engine of the show is a young man's efforts to provide for and protect the people he loves while ancestral forces he barely understands begin to press in on him. Each of the six episodes of this single season, running about forty-three minutes apiece, builds the sense that the supernatural is not a distant legend but something seeping into kitchens, streets, and stolen moments. The series is a grounded coming of age story with a folkloric undercurrent, carrying a tone that is wry, tender, and quietly uneasy. Its focus on ancestry, responsibility, and the trickster figures of Indigenous storytelling gives it a distinctive voice. Viewers who enjoy Reservation Dogs for its warmth and indigenous perspective, or Teen Wolf for its teen supernatural mystery, will find a kindred spirit here.
