## Synopsis

High Score (2020) is a American documentary miniseries created by France Costrel and produced by Great Big Story for Netflix. Across six episodes of roughly forty-three minutes each, it revisits the history of classic video games, letting the innovators who designed these worlds and characters do most of the talking. Voice actor Charles Martinet narrates the series, and developers and pioneers such as Doug Macrae, Mike Horowitz, Karen Lawson, Jerry Lawson and Ken Williams appear as themselves, sharing memories of studios, arcade floors and the early days of home consoles. Rather than a dramatized story, the engine of each episode is the anecdote: how a particular character was conceived, how a rival company answered a hit, how a cabinet ended up in a living room. Archive footage and recollection thread together the rise of Nintendo, Sega and the arcade era. The mood is warm, curious and affectionate, a nostalgic look back that rewards anyone who grew up with a controller in hand. Fans of Atari: Game Over and other gaming history documentaries will find much of the same appeal here, in a single self-contained season. Viewers who loved the era will feel at home in its accessible, informative pace.
