## Synopsis

The Duchess (2020) is a British comedy series created by Katherine Ryan for Netflix. Katherine Ryan stars as Katherine, a single mother balancing her career, her tween daughter and a relationship with her boyfriend Shep (Rory Keenan), while she ponders getting pregnant with her ex. Supporting performers Katy Byrne as Olive, Michelle de Swarte as Bev and Max Fincham as Elliot fill out her circle of friends and family, with Steen Raskopoulos as Evan adding to the domestic tangle. The engine of the series is the everyday collision of parenting, work and romance, with each short episode of roughly twenty-two minutes built around a fresh embarrassing decision or awkward encounter. Its single six-episode season is a compact, cringe-prone comedy set against a houseboat home and London-flavored domestic life. The tone is candid, sardonic and confessional, with a warm undercurrent beneath the sharp jokes about dating and motherhood. Fans of Fleabag, Motherland and Catastrophe will find resonance in its frank, self-aware take on modern single parenthood.
