## Synopsis

Beast Wars: Transformers (1996-1999) is a Canadian animated science fiction action series created by Bob Forward and Larry DiTillio for YTV and syndication. Produced by Mainframe Entertainment and based on the Hasbro toy line, the show runs three seasons and fifty-two episodes of thirty minutes each. Two spaceships, one carrying the benevolent Maximals and the other the villainous Predacons, crash-land on a pre-humanoid planet while bound for Earth. Their crews take on indigenous animal forms to hide from overwhelming natural energy and transform into robots when they fight. Optimus Primal (voiced by Garry Chalk) leads the Maximals, while Megatron (voiced by David Kaye) commands the Predacons, and the rivalry drives nearly every episode. Scott McNeil voices the scheming Dinobot, Rattrap and Waspinator, whose shifting loyalties give the series much of its heart. Each story pits the two factions against one another in brisk, action-packed battles, with playful bickering and absurd humor undercutting the conflict. The tone stays whimsical and nostalgic, and the result is a colorful, kid-friendly adventure with a surprising emotional pull. Fans of Transformers: Generation 1, Transformers: Animated and Dinosaucers will find familiar robot warfare and toy-born spectacle here.
