## Synopsis

All Creatures Great & Small (2020-present) is a British period drama series created by Colin Callender for Playground Entertainment's broadcast circuit, adapted from the novel or book series by James Herriot. Nicholas Ralph plays the young country vet James Herriot, who arrives in the Yorkshire Dales to practise veterinary medicine alongside the gruff, old-fashioned Siegfried Farnon (Samuel West) and the mischievous Tristan Farnon (Callum Woodhouse). Their engine is simple and absorbing: each episode brings a new animal emergency, a stubborn farmer or a household crisis, and James must win trust while learning his craft in a community that is slow to accept outsiders. Helen Alderson (Rachel Shenton) and the housekeeper Mrs Hall (Anna Madeley) anchor the domestic life of the practice. The show runs across seven seasons of self-contained cases threaded with longer personal arcs, giving it the rhythm of a long-running episodic family saga. Set in 1930s Yorkshire, it moves through farmhouse kitchens, muddy fields and village surgeries with a warm, wry, heartfelt register. Its humour is gentle and its sentiment earned, and it sits comfortably beside the 1978 original, Downton Abbey and The Durrells for viewers who want cozy rural British storytelling with a big heart.
