## Synopsis

Nanny and the Professor (1970-1971) is an American fantasy situation comedy created by AJ Carothers and Thomas L. Miller for ABC, produced by 20th Century Fox Television. Juliet Mills plays Phoebe Figalilly, a nanny with magical powers who joins a household run by a widowed college professor, Harold Everett (Richard Long), and his children Butch (Trent Lehman) and Prudence (Kim Richards). The engine of the show is simple and warm: Phoebe's supernatural tricks keep the chaotic household afloat, while the professor and the children must keep her secret from neighbors and outsiders. Each of its three seasons is a self-contained case of the week, with episodes built around everyday mishaps that a bit of quiet magic can fix. Running across 54 episodes in short twenty-five minute installments, the series belongs to the classic network sitcom tradition of its era, with multi-camera studio staging and broad physical comedy. Its tone is cozy, breezy and gently whimsical, with a nostalgic family warmth. Fans of Bewitched, I Dream of Jeannie and Mary Poppins will find a similar comfort in its magical household comedy.
