## Synopsis

Rupert (1991-1997) is a Canadian animated children's fantasy series created by Mary Tourtel and produced with Nelvana for YTV. Rupert Bear, voiced by Ben Sandford, leads a circle of woodland friends in the village of Nutwood, including the mischievous Algy Pug (Keith White), the steady Bill Badger (Torquil Campbell) and the cheerful Podgy Pig (Hadley Kay). Each episode follows the group as they step into a magical world full of enchantment, intrigue and small dangers, with the characters setting out to solve a problem and find their way home to the village. The series spans five seasons of thirteen episodes each, with sixty-five episodes in total, and is built as a string of self-contained adventures rather than one continuing story. Its tone is gentle and storybook-like, warm and whimsical, with danger kept light enough for young viewers. Its origins in the classic British bear stories give it a nostalgic, folkloric quality, and fans of The Wind in the Willows and Babar will find a similar pleasure in its talking animals, pastoral setting and gentle adventure. The look is hand-drawn animation with bright, cozy colors, suited to young children and families watching together.
