## Synopsis

Blindspotting (2021-2023) is a Starz comedy-drama series created by Daveed Diggs and Rafael Casal, set in contemporary Oakland, California. Jasmine Cephas Jones plays Ashley, a woman who was climbing toward a stable middle class life with her partner of twelve years, Miles Jones (Rafael Casal), until he is suddenly incarcerated. Forced to move in with Miles's mother Rainey (Helen Hunt) and his half-sister Janelle (Candace Nicholas-Lippman), Ashley navigates a chaotic, humorous existential crisis while raising their son. Benjamin Earl Turner plays Earl, whose presence adds friction and warmth to the household. The engine of the show is practical: money, housing, parenting, and the constant pull between respectability and the streets. Each episode mixes comic set pieces with sharp, emotionally raw confrontations, and the hip-hop soundtrack and musical sequences give the series a propulsive rhythm. Across two seasons the tone shifts between biting satire and tender family drama, with a grounded view of Oakland life. Fans of Atlanta, Insecure and Dear White People will find resonance in its blend of sharp humor, race and class commentary, and intimate family conflict. The two-season run was canceled before its story fully resolved.
