## Synopsis

Fair Trade (2021-2023) is a Belgian crime drama series created by Mark Punt for VTM and Streamz. Kevin Janssens plays Walter Wilson, a police detective whose addictions to women, booze and drugs make him volatile, and Ella-June Henrard plays his partner Robin De Rover, a fellow officer who once held noble ideals. Once committed to dangerous detective work, the two grow frustrated as courtroom technicalities, expensive defense lawyers and unreliable foreign judges undo their cases. Their slide begins on patrol, where they start tipping off criminals about upcoming police actions in exchange for generous payments. When Walter is suspended after repeated clashes, he deepens his ties to the criminal underworld, and the show follows the tense, shifting alliances between cops and crooks. Peter van den Begin and Axel Daeseleire round out the principal cast as fellow officers. Across two seasons and fourteen episodes of roughly fifty-three minutes, the series is one continuing story with a gritty, cynical, morally murky tone. Fans of The Shield and Narcos will find resonance in its dirty cop premise and grim view of institutional decay, set in contemporary Flanders.
