## Synopsis

The Last Word (2020) is a German dark comedy miniseries created by Aron Lehmann and Carlos V. Irmscher for Netflix. Across six roughly 45-minute episodes, Anke Engelke plays Karla Fazius, a eulogy speaker who has lost faith in the words she has long delivered for strangers. When her husband Andreas Borowski (Thorsten Merten) dies, she begins to sabotage his funeral, and the story follows the mounting damage as family members, including Nina Gummich as Judith Fazius and Johannes Zeiler as Stefan Fazius, are pulled into the fallout. Each episode is built around the awkward logistics of mourning, the rituals families perform for appearances, and the private resentments that surface when a eulogy becomes a confession. The register is wry and mordant, with grief playing against absurd social choreography in a contemporary German setting. Fans of Six Feet Under, Good Bye Lenin! and Fleabag will find resonance in its blend of sharp humour and emotional candour. Its tone is cringe-tinged yet tender, observing how people hide behind ceremony when they cannot face loss directly. The compact run makes it an easy one-sitting watch for viewers who enjoy character-driven comedy with a melancholic edge.
