## Synopsis

Sex and the City (1998-2004) is an American HBO comedy-drama series created by Darren Star, a sitcom-leaning dramedy adapted from Candace Bushnell's bestselling book. Sarah Jessica Parker plays Carrie Bradshaw, a newspaper columnist in her late thirties whose weekly columns dissect her love life, while Kim Cattrall as Samantha Jones, Cynthia Nixon as Miranda Hobbes and Kristin Davis as Charlotte York make up her circle of single best friends. The engine is simple and recurring: each woman pursues a career and a romance in Manhattan, and every episode turns on a fresh date, a breakup, or a brunch debate about what the week's encounter means. The show runs six seasons across 94 episodes, mostly standalone stories tied together by the friendships. Set in contemporary New York City, it captures the late 1990s and early 2000s social scene through frank conversation about sex, status and independence. The tone is witty, candid and warm, with a glossy fashion sheen and a bittersweet undercurrent about getting older. Fans of Girls, Insecure and Ally McBeal will find resonance here.
