## Synopsis

A Perfect Crime (2020) is a German documentary true crime miniseries created by Christian Beetz and Georg Tschurtschenthaler, distributed on Netflix. Across four roughly forty-three-minute episodes, it revisits the April 1991 assassination in Dusseldorf of Detlev Rohwedder, the head of the Treuhand, the agency overseeing the privatization of former East German state industries. Rather than relying on a fictional protagonist, the series is built around interviews and reconstructed evidence, following investigators, witnesses and commentators as they weigh strange recovered details against the official account. Each episode pushes further into a case where motive, intelligence services and the anxieties of reunification blur together. The atmosphere is sober and unsettling, a mix of archival textures and measured testimony that leaves uncertainty hanging over the killing. Viewers drawn to unresolved investigations and politically charged mysteries will find the same unease that animates true crime series such as The Thin Blue Line and Making a Murderer, though this one is rooted in the turbulent transition from communism to capitalism in Germany.
