## Synopsis

The Great Seljuks (2020-2021) is a Turkish historical war drama produced for TRT 1 and created by Sedat İnci, a single-season run of 34 episodes that plays like a Turkish television epic. Buğra Gülsoy plays Sultan Melikşah, the Great Seljuk Emperor, while Ekin Koç plays his loyal companion Ahmed Sencer, and the two form the heart of a campaign against Hasan Sabbah (Gürkan Uygun), a rival sworn to destroy the Seljuk state. Episodes are built from military confrontations, strategic maneuvering and the court politics that surround the throne, with Hatice Şendil as Terken Hatun and Mehmet Özgür as Nizâmülmülk adding weight to the palace side of the story. The tone is grand and earnest, with large-scale battle sequences, a sense of duty and loyalty, and the weight of an empire under threat. Set in the medieval Islamic world of the eleventh century, the series appeals to viewers who enjoy sweeping historical spectacle in the vein of Kurulus: Osman and Mehmed: Bir Cihan Fatihi, and those drawn to the political scheming of Game of Thrones.
