## What critics say

Audiences found the sequel-series a lightweight, character-focused fantasy that underdelivers on the adventure and spectacle its film predecessor promised.

## Synopsis

Willow (2022-2023) is a US fantasy adventure series created by Jon Kasdan for Disney+, a Lucasfilm production and direct sequel to the 1988 film. Warwick Davis returns as the legendary sorcerer Willow Ufgood, now years older, who leads a group of misfit heroes on a dangerous rescue mission through a world far beyond their experience. Ellie Bamber plays Dove, Ruby Cruz plays Princess Kit Tanthalos, and Erin Kellyman plays Jade Claymore, each pulling against the others as the companions learn to trust one another under pressure. The engine of the story is the quest itself: a band of unlikely allies crossing hostile terrain, facing creatures and rival powers while the sorcerer's reputation is tested against the expectations of a new generation. The series runs for a single eight-episode season, with each hour moving the rescue forward in a continuing storyline rather than standalone adventures. Its tone is earnest and whimsical, with wide landscapes, practical costumes and a warm affection for the original film's magic and humor. Fans of The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power and The Witcher will find familiar pleasures here, though the show's character-driven pacing divides viewers who wanted more spectacle.
