## Synopsis

Archive 81 (2022) is a American supernatural horror series created by Rebecca Sonnenshine for Netflix. Mamoudou Athie plays Dan Turner, an archivist hired to restore damaged videotapes, whose work pulls him into the disappearance of a director and a demonic cult. Dina Shihabi plays Melody Pendras, whose investigation in 1994 at the Visser building forms the second thread of the story, and Martin Donovan appears as Virgil Davenport, a figure tied to the cult's hidden history. The engine of the series is Dan's slow piecing together of footage that was never meant to be seen, with each recovered tape exposing something more unsettling about the building and the people who lived there. The season runs eight episodes of roughly fifty-seven minutes, a single continuing mystery told across two timelines rather than a case of the week. The found footage aesthetic and analog textures give it a claustrophobic, grainy look, and the tone is suffocating, patient and steeped in cosmic dread. Fans of Rosemary's Baby, REC and Twin Peaks will find resonance in its paranoia, its occult menace and its layered, tape-driven mystery. The series was canceled after one season, leaving its central mystery open.
