## Synopsis

The Hunt for a Killer (2020) is a Swedish national-television true crime series created by Helene Lindholm and produced by Yellow Bird for SVT Play. Across six 45-minute episodes in a single season, it follows policeman Per-Åke Åkesson (Anders Beckman) and a reconnaissance group that includes Tonny Andersson (Lars Schilken), Helén Nilsson (Minoo Mårtensson) and Monica Olhed (Lotten Roos) as they pursue the killer of several women in northeastern Skåne. The engine is patience: the investigators must trace leads, rule out suspects and keep working as the case stretches across years, with each episode built from interviews, evidence checks and the frustrations of stalled inquiries. Drawn from real homicide investigations in southern Sweden between 1989 and 2004, the story unfolds in a quiet rural landscape where the crimes feel close to home. The tone is sober, grounded and unsensational, with a steady undercurrent of dread and grief. Viewers who appreciate the methodical realism of The Killing, the cold procedural precision of The Bridge and the true crime rigor of Mindhunter will find a similar resonance here. Its single-season limited run gives the story a contained and focused arc.
