## Synopsis

My Better Half (2020-2021) is a Turkish television drama series created by Serdar Gözelekli for Star TV. After a fall from grace, a mother and her young daughter Serra, played by Özge Yağız, try to build an ordinary life in a modest neighborhood in Turkey. Serra is learning to stand on her own two feet when she meets Selim, the heir of the rich and powerful Kutlusoy family, played by Tolga Mendi, and sparks fly across the widening gap between their worlds. The supporting cast includes Cemre Baysel as Biricik, Emre Bey as Burak, Defne Samyeli as Asena and Cansel Elçin as Ihsan Kutlusay, whose presence keeps the wealthy household close at hand. The engine of the show is the push and pull of a romance strained by pride, family expectations and the everyday struggles of people who have lost their footing. The series runs as a single twelve-episode season of roughly two hours per episode, with a serialized romantic storyline and dramatic family confrontations. Its register is melodramatic and sentimental, with emotional tension and a glossy, soap-like sheen. Viewers who enjoy the class-clash romance of Kara Sevda, the wealthy family melodrama of Fatmagul, or the fallen-family soap energy of Gossip Girl will find familiar pleasures here. The show was canceled after its first season, leaving its story unfinished.
