## Synopsis

Superman (1988) is a United States animated superhero series created for CBS and produced by Ruby-Spears Productions. Beau Weaver voices the Man of Steel, who hides his powers behind the mild-mannered disguise of Clark Kent while working alongside Lois Lane (Ginny McSwain) and Jimmy Olsen (Mark L. Taylor) at the Daily Planet. Michael Bell voices the scheming Lex Luthor, and Alan Oppenheimer and Tress MacNeille voice Jonathan and Martha Kent, grounding the hero in his small-town upbringing. The engine of each half-hour episode is simple and direct: a criminal scheme, a threat to ordinary people, or a bid for world domination that Superman must stop with his flight, strength, and heat vision. The show is a single season of 26 episodes, a self-contained action adventure with a clear moral center rather than a serialized arc. Its tone is earnest, bright, and colorful, a classic Saturday morning cartoon in which heroism is never ironic. Set in a stylized version of a modern American city, it has the broad, comic-book atmosphere of its era. Fans of Batman: The Animated Series, Spider-Man (1994), and Justice League will find a similar mix of animated spectacle and plain-spoken justice.
