## Synopsis

The Promise (2021) is a French television crime drama series created by Anne Landois for TF1. Its single six-episode season follows Captain Pierre Castaing (Olivier Marchal), a police officer whose investigation into the vanishing of eleven-year-old Charlotte Meyer on Boxing Day 1999 refuses to yield any answers. Castaing's search is the engine of the show: every episode pushes into the procedural dead ends, family pressures and personal guilt that keep the case alive. Running parallel is a young investigator, Sarah Castaing (Elisa Ezzedine), who finds herself facing a disappearance strikingly similar to his, a few hundred kilometers away. The two threads are intercut so that each case reflects the other. Set in late 1990s France, the series is a grounded, somber mystery built on winter atmosphere, sustained dread and the slow erosion of hope. Its tone is melancholic and tense, with the emphasis on patience and character over spectacle. Viewers who enjoy The Missing, The Killing and Broadchurch will find the same mix of unresolved grief and procedural attention here. The series runs as a single contained limited series of six episodes, each about fifty minutes long.
